A woman taught her stepdaughter a lesson about being frugal when they were perusing the designer section at the mall. After getting repeatedly spoiled by her other parents, this 17-year-old girl had grown accustomed to the adults in her life telling her "Yes," so when her stepmom, wealthy in her own right, decidedly told her she wouldn't buy her a designer bag, the girl threw a tantrum.
It's not that she couldn't buy the $2100 handbag; she just wouldn't.
Teenagers don't really have a lifestyle of their own yet. Without an income, a job, forthcoming hobbies, or any means of self-reliance, oftentimes, teens are a product of the environment their parents provide. Yet, when your parents are providing an infinite allowance and a financial structure without boundaries, that's going to produce an awfully entitled teen. But not on this stepmom's watch! She is going to do everything she can to prevent her teen from becoming completely entitled, even if that means becoming the temporary bad guy in the process.
